NAMA 2024 General Managers’ Retreat: Fostering Leadership and Resource Management for Air Navigation Excellence

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) recently held its 2024 General Managers’ Retreat at the Al Vari Hotel in Keffi, with the theme “Effective Leadership and Optimal Resource Management in the Provision of Air Navigation Services in a Challenged Economic Situation.” The retreat gathered the agency’s senior leadership to focus on the strategic role of effective management in ensuring quality air navigation services despite current economic challenges.

In his opening address, Acting Managing Director and Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr. John Tayo, commended the General Managers for their dedication to NAMA’s mission. He welcomed new appointees and emphasized the importance of interdepartmental collaboration to enhance operational efficiency. Mr. Tayo highlighted NAMA’s partnership with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in strengthening staff training and capacity building, aimed at raising service quality across the agency. He assured the General Managers of NAMA’s commitment to providing the necessary tools for success, including operational vehicles to support their duties.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Abdullah Musa, also congratulated the General Managers, expressing confidence in their ability to lead NAMA to new heights. Addressing the critical role of leadership and resourcefulness, he noted that these qualities would be instrumental in boosting NAMA’s standing in the aviation sector.

Representing the Director of Finance and Accounts, Dr. Chima Nwobilor, General Manager of Finance, acknowledged the financial constraints facing NAMA. Nevertheless, he reassured attendees of the agency’s commitment to supporting them through improved compensation and resources, underlining the need for each GM’s dedication to sound financial management in navigating the challenging economic landscape.

Mr. Abba Ahmed, Director of Special Duties, urged the General Managers to remain focused on NAMA’s vision and mission, emphasizing that their leadership was integral to the agency’s future success. He reiterated the agency’s reliance on their expertise and commitment to upholding NAMA’s goals.

Engr. Terese I. Ihenachor, Director of Safety, Engineering, and Equipment Services (DSEES), drew from her own experience as a former GM to share insights with the attendees. Congratulating the General Managers, she reassured them of NAMA’s support and the provision of new vehicles to help them fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

The 2024 retreat concluded with a unified focus on leadership and resource management, underscoring NAMA’s commitment to overcoming economic challenges while advancing excellence in air navigation services through resilient and capable leadership.
